Freeway Free at Last (Roc-A-Fella) Rap
On Freeway's sophomore album, Free at Last, he laments a bad breakup. ''I'm back
without a Just track/Tried to reach out and work/But he ain't chirp
back.'' So who's been dodging his calls? Just Blaze, who produced more
than half of the rapper's underrated '03 debut, Philadelphia Freeway.
Without Blaze's meticulous mixes to rein him in, Freeway's raspy,
erratic gun talk veers out of control. Behind-the-boards stalwarts like
Bink and Dame Grease provide plenty of soulful hip-hop, but the
chemistry isn't quite the same. That's often the way with rebound
relationships.
