A deadpan lead performance by Tim Thomerson — as a futuristic gumshoe sent back in time to snuff out a bunch of steroid-charged supersoldiers — is the best thing about this energetic but needlessly confusing action flick. Unlike the first two installments in this popular vid series, Trancers III admirably ups the ultraviolence and boasts spectacular sets that belie its modest budget. C
