Paprika is sure to be a midnight-movie perennial; this jazzy anime entry adds a few new colors to the dream-invasion genre. Director Satoshi Kon's plotting is abstruse (something about a stolen gizmo called the DC-Mini?), but his visuals are clean and sunny, most of all in the film's recurring hallucination: a jingly parade of sashaying refrigerators, geisha dolls, and horn-tooting frogs that's both trance-inducing and terrifying. EXTRAS Kon's commentary extols the influence of Slaughterhouse-Five and explains the opening nightmare's circus setting: ''It's so cheerful that it's almost psychotic.'' B+
