HBO Films is financing and will distribute Sugar, Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden's follow-up to their 2006 indie feature Half Nelson. Sugar is described as a fish-out-of-water story about fictional Dominican baseball prospect Miguel ''Sugar'' Santos, who is sent to play ball in a small Midwestern town after being scouted in his home country. Fleck is directing from Boden's script. The movie will get its world premiere at next month's Sundance Film Festival. HBO will then either debut it on its pay network or give it a theatrical release via its Picturehouse label. (Hollywood Reporter)
