'No Country' Wins Top NBR Award

The Coen Brothers' No Country For Old Men struck first blood this awards season picking up National Board of Review Awards for best picture, best ensemble cast, and best screenplay on Wednesday (Dec. 5). George Clooney and Julie Christie won best actor and actress, while Clooney's Michael Clayton and Christie's Away From Her made NBR's Top Ten Films and Top Independent Films lists, respectively. Tim Burton grabbed best director for Sweeney Todd, and Diablo Cody (Juno) and Nancy Oliver (Lars and the Real Girl) tied for best original screenplay. All three movies also made the Top Ten Films list.

The NBR's top film selection hasn't gone on to take the best picture Oscar since 1999's American Beauty. For a complete list of the 2007 NBR Awards, visit the NBR website.
