English countryside and a forbidden affair? Sounds Harlequin-worthy. But Pascale Ferran's sensual French-language adaptation of D.H. Lawrence's 1928 novel, Lady Chatterly defies such simplification by fleshing out the title character's sexual awakening in the hands of her gamekeeper and delivering a gamut of emotions and imagery: mirth mingled with sadness, stark nudity against lush landscapes. When the leading lovers go for a twirl in the rain, viewers may want to take a shower of their own. A cold one. EXTRAS Only trailers and production photos. B+
