5. The Simpsons
snpp.com
Launch Date July 1994
What You'll Find If you can hang with the lo-fi look (by the way, snpp stands for Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, but the site is actually called the Simpsons Archive), you'll be slurping up oodles of show-inspired minutiae. The Homer-happy hub features episode capsules, theories about Springfield's location, academic papers (''Tones of Morality Through Layers of Sarcasm''), fan-written scripts, DVD Easter egg instructions, and breakdowns of every couch gag and sax solo from the opening credits. Alas, a few of these databases are almost as out of date as Disco Stu.
Why It's Essential The Simpsons is all about fun, obsessive attention to detail, and this site adheres well to that ethos (even if it's not as visually grabby as nohomers.net another tribute worth your time).
Official Site thesimpsons.com
Includes an episode guide and character profiles. And if you missed the last few shows, don't have a cow, man: They're here. Dan Snierson
