The year on the small screen: Memorable moments and episodes from the tube in 2007

LeAnn Rimes stopped by to look skinny, sing two songs, and promote tonight's CMA Awards on ABC, or what Samantha called ''country's music's biggest night.'' First up: the first-ever multiplatinum country single, ''How Do I Live,'' which featured Tony whipping Julianne through the atmosphere as if she weighed about five ounces. This was some Xtreme Rumba. Unfortunately, LeAnn's second song and its accompanying ''dance'' were significantly less compelling. I couldn't make out a single lyric beyond the chorus; why does LeAnn insist on inflecting every word à la Xtina all of a sudden? And the female-pros-as-sexy-props gimmick worked even less than it did when Edyta and Kym had to stomp around Rod Stewart during a live performance of ''Hot Legs.'' At least both the singing and the dancing had something in common: a quite literal interpretation of the song's title: It was ''Nothing Better to Do,'' and that's exactly what the ladies suggested they had.

Macy's again did its best to trick us into thinking we were watching So You Think You Can Dance. It's a cute little game they play. Love the subliminal red and white! The break-dancing group the Rock Steady Crew mopped up the floor with their hands and scalps with a routine that was impressive but comically out of place, especially when you could see bewildered senior citizens in the front row of the studio audience failing to clap on the beat and just sitting there like ''What?''

As usual, we had to plow through a few other useless segments to get to the results. Since the show had maxed out the budget on Dancecenter, the cast interviews must have been thrown together in two seconds, and they informed us of phenomena of which we were previously aware. ''The bottom two has been different every week!'' said Marie. ''You don't know how many people are voting at home,'' offered Cameron. ''You never know!'' piped in Jennie. The entire effort was only slightly less pointless than this paragraph.

So! Now that the weakest link (or at least the weakest stomach) has left the building, who else is psyched for 10 more dances come Monday night? Who do you think was really in the bottom two last night? And which of the top five couples has the best shot at becoming disco-ball-trophy legends?
