Savior

The timing of this video release is terribly apt: Set in 1993 Bosnia, the film's harrowing images of genocidal carnage all too closely resemble what we're seeing on the nightly news. Yet nearly as compelling is the story of an American mercenary (Quaid) who became a cold-blooded killer after losing his wife and child to a terrorist bomb. This soulless soldier gets a chance for redemption when he rescues a young Serbian woman (Natasa Ninkovic) and her baby, leading them across a war-pillaged landscape to a safe haven. In Savior, their fictionalized odyssey might easily have paled in comparison with what's happening in the real world; instead, it's urgent and of the moment. This drama makes the numbingly large-scale horror heart-breakingly intimate. A-
