Winehouse attracted the brighter spotlight that now shines on Sharon Jones, the
soul powerhouse they've backed for a decade. But it's what's happening
under that light that matters, and 100 Days, 100 Nights takes a giant leap forward
from funk pastiches that were often more homages than statements. In
trading their early sound of James Brown and the JBs for that of Booker
T. & the MGs, the Dap-Kings' slower, moodier template gives Jones' voice
the space it needs to soar. A-
