There's no communication breakdown on this coupling, Raising Sand, between the king of ''Kashmir'' and the queen of neo-bluegrass. They ultimately meet in a roots-rock commonwealth, joined by producer T Bone Burnett, who picked the eclectic covers, and Marc Ribot, a guitarist who can make rockabilly licks sound ethereal. As with last year's Emmylou Harris — Mark Knopfler disc, these aren't ''duets'' but exercises in sublime harmony, with Alison Krauss taking the lead on the macho blues stuff and Robert Plant manhandling the ''feminine'' material.
