There's no communication breakdown on this coupling, Raising Sand, between the king of
''Kashmir'' and the queen of neo-bluegrass. They ultimately meet in a
roots-rock commonwealth, joined by producer T Bone Burnett, who picked
the eclectic covers, and Marc Ribot, a guitarist who can make rockabilly
licks sound ethereal. As with last year's Emmylou Harris Mark Knopfler
disc, these aren't ''duets'' but exercises in sublime harmony, with Alison Krauss
taking the lead on the macho blues stuff and Robert Plant manhandling the
''feminine'' material.
