Yeasayer cite Cyndi Lauper and Popol Vuh as influences and sure enough,
the foursome have managed to funnel both '80s pop and Krautrock through
this stellar debut, All Hour Cymbals. An inclusive atmosphere reigns: Sludgy metal
textures, barbershop gospel (à la TV on the Radio), and liberal doses of
electronic psych-rock mania make room for a humble sitar or marimba to
enter the mix. With lyrics like ''I've come to beg for forgiveness/So
forgive me'' set to handclaps and whooping, you'll feel a bit like you've
stumbled upon a brand-new religion. A-
