
(FROM HOLLYWOOD REPORTER) – Tyler Perry has been cast as the head of the Starfleet Academy in the upcoming Star Trek movie J.J. Abrams is directing for Paramount. Shooting started in November for a planned Christmas Day 2008 release. The buzz around the Web is Perry has already shot scenes with co-stars Chris Pine, who plays a young Captain Kirk, and Zachary Quinto, who plays a young Spock. The ensemble cast also includes Eric Bana, Winona Ryder, Leonard Nimoy, Ben Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Karl Urban, Chris Hemsworth, Zoe Saldana, and Clifton Collins Jr. Perry most recently wrote, directed, co-produced, and co-starred in Why Did I Get Married? His next project is the feature Meet the Browns, which he wrote, produced, and directs. (Hollywood Reporter)
