If Curtis Mayfield had moved to Nashville and fronted a 13-piece indie-pop band, it might have sounded something like Lambchop. On Nixon, its delightfully weird fifth album, the band pays loose tribute to the 37th President. Why Nixon? Who cares? Lambchop's layered orchestral soul and frontman Kurt Wagner's smooth falsetto croon are so slick you'll quickly forget about Tricky Dick. A-
