American Music Shop (1990 - 1993)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Start Date: Mar 31, 1990; Genre: Music; Network: TNN

The Nashville Network's best music show is also one of its most unheralded. This half-hour features the charming David Holt as host. Holt is a professional storyteller, which means he doesn't strive for a funny punch line — he just rambles on entertainingly. When he's not rambling or playing a banjo, he introduces such acts as Nanci Griffith and James McMurtry — performers who share Holt's ear for literary detail in their music. This makes American Music Shop one of TV's more thoughtful music shows, and upcoming guests will include veterans like Waylon Jennings and Delbert McClinton as well as such new stars as Kathy Mattea and Lee Roy Parnell.
