While Tim Burton cites Hammer (the horror studio responsible for '50s classics Dracula and The Mummy) as inspiration for the look of Sweeney Todd, closer inspection reveals that the auteur paid quite a bit of homage to, well, himself.
— Sweeney Todd's stylized head of hair, pallid complexion, and fondness for sharp edges can't help but evoke Johnny Depp and Burton's first collaboration: 1990's fable Edward Scissorhands
— Michael Keaton's tousled mop in the 1988 comedy Beetlejuice brings to mind Helena Bonham Carter's hairdo as Mrs. Lovett, a woman whose morals are as tangled as her mane.
— Burton's Willy Wonka (played by Depp,) in 2005's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory mirrors Sacha Baron Cohen's look as rival barber Pirelli with the Tootie-esque bowl cut and top hat.
— Christina Ricci, in 1999's Sleepy Hollow, and Jayne Wisener, as daughter Johanna, could be twins with their canary curls and alabaster skin. Or at least patrons of the same 19th-century colorist.
— Edward Scissorhands' original hideout boasts a great view with its strikingly slanted roof, while Sweeney Todd's barbershop features a similar design — albeit a little less airy.
