Stones Releasing Soundtrack Through Universal Music Group

(FROM AP) – The Rolling Stones have signed a deal to release the soundtrack to the upcoming Martin Scorsese-directed concert film Shine a Light through Universal Music Group, not EMI, the label that's been the band's home for the past 16 years. Radiohead and Paul McCartney both left EMI last year. The Stones signed a one-album deal with Uni, and the soundtrack will see a March release. EMI said the deal does not affect the label's relationship with the band and that it had been always understood that Universal Music would release the soundtrack because Universal Pictures is producing the movie. ''It's about one film, one soundtrack, and had nothing to do with their relationship with the label,'' a label spokesman told the AP. ''They're an EMI band.'' On Tuesday (Jan. 14), the equity company that owns EMI announced that the label would be cutting 2,000 jobs, about a third of its workforce. (AP via Yahoo!)
