Aspiring medical student Raya (Rutina Wesley) has been attending private school for three years. When her drug-addicted sister dies, Rays must move back to her old, crime-filled neighborhood. The city's Step Monster contest offers a $50,000 prize, which might be Raya's only way out of the city and into college.
