PLOT SUMMARY: The castaways on the raft think they've found rescue — only to be confronted by a hostile band of grungy pirates who snatch Walt and blow up the raft. Flashbacks continue to show the survivors' pre-flight hours, with several almost missing the fateful trip. The Islanders manage to finally blow open the hatch...but we're forced to wait until next season to see what's inside.
MYTHOLOGY ALERT: Hurley's lottery-winning numbers loom big, particularly when he spots them on the hatch door and tries to stop Locke from blowing it up. Too little, too late.
CRITIQUE: The finale of finales, from the early jolt of Arzt's sudden explosion, to the dark humor (Hurley to Jack: ''You got some Arzt on you''), to the final pan down the hatch. Anyone who argued that we should've gotten a look into the hatch — and there were plenty — were simply weak under the pressure of a perfect cliffhanger.
