Spyro the Dragon

Details Distributor: Sony Computer Entertainment America

Talking dragons can be somewhat disconcerting (e.g. Sean Connery in Dragonheart). Spyro (from Spyro the Dragon) — a diminutive dragon with a nasal voice a la Droopy the Dog — and the stuffy elders whom he's supposed to free from magical spells are no exception. Good thing you can cut off their story-developing monologues and jump right to the gameplay: As Spyro you get to breathe fire and glide around on your sprouting wings. But it's romping around the 30 expansive 3-D fantasy worlds to the tunes of relaxing New Age riffs that will really turn you into a Spyro-maniac. B+
