Ironically, Boss Hog's slickest disc, Whiteout, comes after being dropped by a major label. The production's cleaned up and Cristina Martinez sings instead of screaming, but the band's primal, R&B-infused groove still hits below the belt in every sense. Blurring the line between spiteful taunts and swaggering come-ons, Martinez and hubby/guitarist Jon Spencer turn arrogance into art. B+
