(FROM HOLLYWOOD REPORTER) – Eleven-year-old Australian actor Kodi Smit-McPhee will play the son of Viggo Mortensen's character in the movie adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's Pulitzer Prize-winning post-apocalyptic novel The Road. The story follows a man and his son's journey across a barren U.S. landscape after an unnamed cataclysmic event destroyed most of civilization. Charlize Theron co-stars as the man's wife, mostly through flashback scenes. Smit-McPhee recently starred opposite Eric Bana, Marton Csokas, and Franka Potente in Romulus, My Father. The Australian Film Institute nominated him for best lead actor for his work in the movie and honored him with the Young Actor Award. (Hollywood Reporter)
