Screw courtrooms. Damages, FX's legal thriller, virtually avoids them in 13 brilliantly structured episodes. We begin with the bloody end of a corporate-fraud case, and extended flashbacks reveal the shocking events that came before (think clandestine meetings on dark NYC streets). Golden Globe-winner Glenn Close is devastating as a malevolent diva lawyer out to nail a corrupt CEO (Ted Danson). Too bad the EXTRAS have no appeal. In a commentary, the show's creators barely let Close squeeze in any insight besides ''We made the decision to shock people.'' B+
