The final five designers of Bravo's Project Runway showed their collections to a packed crowd (hello, Meryl Streep!) at New York Fashion Week. After seeing the lines, we predict the last designer standing, and the four who'll be left with a parting kiss from Heidi Klum.
Jillian LewisPRO As she's proved on the show, the girl excels at tailoring. Her shimmering, full-skirted party frocks, cozy knits, and sleek jackets were impeccably constructed tributes to playful femininity.
CON But do they add up to a cohesive collection? Ironically, Jillian's versatility translated into a hodgepodge of a line.
BOTTOM LINE Solid, but without a clear unifying vision, she just doesn't cut it with this crop of Runway contestants.
ODDS 7-1
Christian Siriano
PRO Avant-garde and intricately tailored, Christian's ambitious
ruffle-loving collection could hold its own against any of the other
couture shows that graced the tents at Bryant Park. Impressive for any
designer, much less a 22-year-old.
CON What is this, a 17th-century Dutch funeral? Where's the color, Christian?
BOTTOM LINE With Victoria Beckham on board as guest judge for the Runway finale (airing March 5), Christian, whose dramatic aesthetic screams Posh, becomes our favorite to win the top prize.
ODDS 2-1
Rami Kashoú
PRO A staggering level of craftsmanship defined his evening gowns the Oscar-ready gold number drew gasps, and then applause, from the
fashion-jaded crowd. And he wins some major bonus points for steering
clear of his signature draped jersey.
CON What a surprise gorgeous red-carpet gowns! Oh wait, he does that EVERY week.
BOTTOM LINE The seasoned designer's versatile collection makes him a strong
contender.
ODDS 5-2
Sweet P
PRO Tinged with rock & roll, Sweet P's youthful designs went above and
beyond anything she's produced on the show to date. And, finally, some
color! Her lavender and gold pairing made for a nice twist on this
season's ubiquitous purple and yellow.
CON The fit wasn't always right sure to be a sticking point for the judges. And Sweet P's mix of softer looks and loud, punk plaid didn't make for a
coherent collection.
BOTTOM LINE She wins the prize for most improved and that's it.
ODDS 20-1
Also Ran...Chris March
At first, the outrageous costume designer impressed with silk-screened
frocks in rich jewel tones (including his show opener, the cobalt gown, modeled by Top Model vixen Bianca) that displayed a surprising
amount of elegance. But then it all went very, very wrong with heaps of
crushed velvet, glittering Goth jewels, and cuffs and hems fringed with
hair (yes, human hair).
BOTTOM LINE We love Chris, and we predict a long career for him...in costume design. Anyone staging a remake of Sunset Boulevard?
