3. EPISODE: ''Further Instructions''
ORIGINAL AIR DATE: Oct. 18, 2006
PLOT SUMMARY: The Hatch. Remember that thing? Well, finally, so does Lost. Locke awakens in the jungle, having miraculously survived the Hatch explosion. He's lost his voice, so he builds a sweatlodge and communes with the Island for direction. In a vision, Boone pushes him around the airport in his old wheelchair and makes cryptic predictions about Charlie, Desmond, and Jack. The upshot: Locke's gotta save Mr. Eko, whom he finds in the polar bear's cave. In flashbacks, Locke recalls an ill-fated attempt at finding belief and belonging at a religious commune of pot farmers. When he inadvertently brought an undercover cop into the fold, Locke tried to protect his new family by killing the policeman but couldn't. His Island mojo recovered, Locke decides his next move in preserving his new castaway family is to go save Jack and Co.
MYTHOLOGY ALERT: Inside the polar bear: skeletons wearing Pearl station shirts.
CRITIQUE: Way too long to wait for Hatch resolution and we're STILL waiting to learn how exactly Locke, Eko, and Desmond survived. But kudos to Lost for rehabbing Locke back into old shaman/adventurer form.
