Seven Guitars

Another in Pulitzer winner August Wilson's cycle of stories about urban black life in 20th-century America, Seven Guitars is bighearted, earnest, and long. A strong cast, including Keith David and Tony winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson, works hard; by the second act, however, you may wonder why there is a second act, because the stories don't really lead anywhere and Wilson's trademark — actors bursting into rousing song — is all too rare after the intermission.
