Ving Rhames was in training to play pugilist Sonny Liston in ''Night Train.'' But when that biopic stalled, he hopped aboard this drama about a boxer jailed at the top of his game who's forced to face down the prison champ (Wesley Snipes). Calling the bout is director Walter Hill, who mastered the art of stylish grit with ''The Warriors'' and ''48 HRS.''
