(FROM VARIETY) – Paramount Pictures is developing a new animated movie based on the popular 1970s fantasy comic Heavy Metal. The project, being spearheaded by director David Fincher (Zodiac, Fight Club) will consist of eight or nine individual segments, with each one directed by a different person. Fincher is already set to direct one segment, as are Kevin Eastman (the co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles who now owns and publishes Heavy Metal), and Tim Miller, whose Blur Studios will handle the movie's animation. The film will feature the violent, sexual content that the comic is famous for and is being described as an R-rated, adult-oriented project. The comic previously spawned a movie adaptation in 1981 as well as a follow-up in 2000. Fincher recently wrapped Paramount's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which releases Dec. 19, starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. He is also set to direct Par's adaptation of the Charles Burns' graphic novel Black Hole and is in development on the studio's features Torso and The Killer. (Variety)
