EPISODE: ''33''
ORIGINAL AIR DATE: Jan. 14, 2005
SURVIVORS REMAINING: 49,998

PLOT SUMMARY: Every 33 minutes, the Cylons attack, and the Colonial fleet jumps away. Every 33 minutes, for more than five days, with machine-like regularity. No sleep, no relief. While Adama and the Galactica crew try to solve the mystery of the bizarrely precise attacks, Karl ''Helo'' Agathon (Tahmoh Penikett) — voluntarily marooned on Cylon-occupied Caprica — comes face to face with Boomer, just not the Boomer he knows. The 33-minute hell comes to an end when one of the civilian ships, the Olympic Carrier, appears to have been subverted by the Cylons. Lee ''Apollo'' Adama (Jamie Bamber, pictured), the Commander's son, is ordered to shoot down that ship, which still carries hundreds of innocent people, to protect the fleet.

CRITIQUE: By offering us a look at soldiers at war with something as fundamentally human as exhaustion, ''33'' got us off on the best foot possible. This is the first time we truly saw what this series could be: tense, taut, and terrific.
