''There is a way to be good again.'' So says a wise old man to Amir (Khalid Abdalla), who's stirred to atone for betraying a friend during his youth in late-1970s Afghanistan. Marc Forster directs this adaptation of Khaled Hosseini's '03 novel gracefully, but it's the remarkable Afghan child actors Zekiria Ebrahimi (as young Amir) and Ahmad Khan Mahmoodzada (the friend) who give The Kite Runner its emotional punch. EXTRAS Oddly, neither a filmmakers' commentary nor featurettes mention the Afghan boys' relocation to the United Arab Emirates over fears that Kite's controversial content made them vulnerable in their homeland.
