Banished to purgatory after offing himself, heartbroken Zia (Fugit) wakes up to a surreal, color-bleached limbo where suicides like Mikal (Sossamon's fiery rebel hanger-on) convene and socialize. Wristcutters' somber premise flourishes into morbid comedy when Zia searches for his just-arrived girlfriend the woman who drove him to end it all. His road trip yields the kind of wisdom ''I miss everything, even the things I hated,'' says Mikal that can only be gleaned in the afterlife.
