(FROM REUTERS) – George Michael announced on Monday (March 24) plans for his first tour of the U.S. and Canada in 17 years. The 22-date ''25 Live'' trek will kick off in San Diego on June 17 and end on Aug. 3 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Tickets will go on sale April 6, one week after fan club members get first crack. The St. Paul, MN show already shows up on Ticketmaster's website, with prices ranging from $50-$175.

The former Wham! singer had a string of hits in the 1980s and '90s, including ''Faith,'' ''Father Figure,'' ''I Want Your Sex,'' ''One More Try,'' ''Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me,'' with Elton John, and ''Freedom '90.'' Although he has remained a big draw in Europe, Michael's popularity waned in the U.S. throughout the '90s. By the end of the decade, he was most commonly associated with a 1998 incident in Los Angeles in which he was arrested by an undercover cop for ''engaging in a lewd act'' in a public toilet in a park in Beverly Hills.

He has managed a bit of a Stateside comeback, however, starting with his appearance on Oprah in 2004 to promote Patience, his first album of original material since 1996, which peaked at No. 12 on U.S. charts. On the show — the singer's first U.S. TV appearance in a decade — Michael addressed the Los Angeles incident as well as his decision to come out as a gay man. His U.S. profile got a further boost this past year thanks to his well-received appearances on ABC's freshman legal dramedy Eli Stone. His two-disc greatest hits collection, Twentyfive, already a major hit in the U.K., will get its U.S. release on April 1. (Reuters)
