The Cure for Modern Life (2008)

Matthew is a money-obsessed pharmaceutical exec who takes in two homeless kids he meets on a bridge. His ex, medical ethicist Amelia — who’s pregnant by Matthew’s best friend — is skeptical of Matthew’s sudden family-man status. Matthew and Amelia’s share a concern for the kids, but she’s disgusted by his work and he’s terrified she’ll expose secrets about his firm’s new miracle drug. Oh, and neither can admit they’re still in love. Though Lisa Tucker’s readers will sometimes feel more confused than the self-deluded characters, The Cure for Modern Life offers two pills for modern ailments: honesty and acceptance. B+
