David Lynch made Lost Highway (finally out on DVD) in between the twisted nightmare of 1986's Blue Velvet and the fascinatingly incomprehensible fever dream of 2001's Mulholland Drive, and it sorta splits the difference: It's a half-noir, half-mumbo-jumbo head trip that feels like a lesser version of both films. That said, Highway's first 30 minutes featuring Pullman as a guy who may have murdered his wife, Blake as an eyebrowless ghoul, and a freaky white-noise rumble on the soundtrack are goose-bumpy in a classic Lynch way. EXTRAS None. B
