Supercluster: The Big Dipper Anthology (2008)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Release Date: Mar 18, 2008; Lead Performance: Big Dipper; Genre: Indie Rock

Big Dipper may have been under the radar, but the band, formed in '85, was still a supergroup. When members of fidgety alt-rockers the Embarrassment and the slightly more walloping Volcano Suns teamed to create brainy songs about UFOs and sea monsters, they sounded like Jeopardy! contestants who'd spent their winnings on amplifiers and cowbells. The three-CD box, Supercluster, includes early recordings, plus rarities galore. Combined, these songs provide a clearer view of the quartet's most heavenly offerings. B+
