In Whatever Makes You Happy, three British mothers conspire to crash the flats of their 34-year-old sons, each of whom has been ignoring his mum and, worse, failing to couple up and provide grandkids. William Sutcliffe takes this bit of bull by the Hornby, adding wry wit to an over-the-top premise. When Carol finds handcuffs beneath her son's bed, for instance, she admits feeling pride that ''women wanted her son. Not just mousy, bland women.'' The characters are glib but likable, and you'll start casting the movie as you read. (Perhaps Jude Law as Carol's caddish son?) Best of all, Sutcliffe resists the urge to provide a trio of happy endings. B+
