EPISODE: ''Valley of Darkness''
ORIGINAL AIR DATE: July 22, 2005
SURVIVORS REMAINING: 47,874

PLOT SUMMARY: ''Marines, let's go toaster shopping!'' Apollo leads a hunting party to destroy the armored Cylon invaders, who are bent on opening Galactica's doors and letting the humans get sucked out. Roslin refuses to be held in the brig just so she could be shot like an animal in cage and tags along. On Kobol, Tyrol tearfully euthanizes one of his deckhands while Baltar wakes up from a dream (prophetic vision?) of Adama drowning the hybrid baby; according to Six, Kobol's ancient polytheists were brutal human-sacrificing zealots. On Caprica, Starbuck and self-proclaimed ''idiot'' Helo make a pit-stop at Starbuck's old apartment, where we learn she was an angry young painter (lots of Eye of Jupiter images — nice long-range foreshadowing) who had a problem paying the electricity bill. After smoking stogies, she and Helo drive off in her old truck.

CRITIQUE: Riveting action, mounting baby intrigue, and poignant character moments can't completely disguise the fact that the Kobol and Caprica arcs are growing tedious.
