(FROM VARIETY) – Helen Mirren and Christopher Plummer have joined the cast of Michael Hoffman's Leo Tolstoy biopic The Last Station. They replace previously announced Meryl Streep and Anthony Hopkins as Tolstoy and his wife, Sofia. The cast also includes Paul Giamatti and James McAvoy. The story, based on Jay Parini's 1990 novel, explores the Russian writer and philosopher's final year of life and his troubled marriage. Giamatti plays Tolstoy's trusted follower Chertkov, who becomes Sofia's adversary, while McAvoy plays a naive private secretary sent by Chertkov to work for Tolstoy. Shooting starts April 7.
