Dontcha Wish Your Band Was Hot Like Them

Diddy's future plans -- The mogul may develop a show for Jordan McCoy from ''American Juniors''

MTV's Making the Band might want to consider tweaking its name, and here's a suggestion: Making the Band Viable. In the past two weeks, Danity Kane and Day26 — the groups featured on the reality series' recently wrapped season — logged back-to-back No. 1 albums with combined sales of nearly 450,000. For comparison's sake, that outpaced the most recent first-week sales for Janet Jackson (181,000), Sheryl Crow (92,000), and even Band maestro Diddy himself (170,000).

Diddy, who reinvented the Band franchise in 2002 to develop artists for his Bad Boy label, says the music industry's tough times ''pushed [us] to the point where we've had to be creative in other outlets to really engage listeners.'' To that end, he says he may develop a TV show for Jordan McCoy, a former contestant on American Juniors who brings to mind a certain someone named Miley Cyrus. So has the House That Biggie Built gone totally soft? Diddy insists not: ''I have a mission this year — to put out at least five platinum albums.'' If only Danity Kane could cut three more of them by December, he'd have no problem.
