(FROM BILLBOARD) – Bob Dylan became the first rock and roll artist to be honored by the Pulitzer Prize judges on Monday (April 7) when he was granted an honorary prize for his ''profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power.'' Other awards handed out on Monday went to Junot Diaz's The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, which won the fiction prize; Tracy Letts' August: Osage County for drama; former U.S. poet laureate Robert Hass' Time and Materials for poetry; and Saul Friedlander for general nonfiction for The Years of Extermination: Nazi Germany and the Jews, 1939-1945.
