Under the Cherry Moon shows another side of Prince: the insouciant put-on artist. He directed and stars in this faux-'30s goof about an impish gigolo who woos and abuses a rich debutante (Kristin Scott Thomas). It's really Prince who's the ingenue here. He engages in much mock-effeminate vamping, scampers around the French Riviera in outfits that would have humbled Liberace, and grants himself the most melodramatic death scene since Camille. Also starring the lip-pursing, scene-stealing Jerome Benton. C+
