Heaven or Las Vegas (1990)

The title, Heaven or Las Vegas, might be a jab at the many people who've called this British band's music ''heavenly.'' And in fact the album does have Vegas-like pop hooks and rhythms floating inconclusively through the songs. But that just makes the proceedings — with singer Liz Fraser's pillowy voice swaddled in echo — sound even more appealing. And odder. B-
