Surfer-punk turned drug dealer George Clooney leads his pals against the barrio homeboys for one last score in Red Surf. For most of the running time, this is a surprisingly engrossing crime drama, centering on a smalltime Scarface who's sympathetic but by no means glorified: It's an ugly, believable picture. But the filmmakers end with a ridiculous vigilante shootout that blows away any meaning they have built up. What's left is just a B film with pretensions. C-
