Elephant Man scored a minor radio hit in the U.S. with 2003's dancehall
jam ''Pon de River, Pon de Bank'' which was apparently enough to set Diddy
off on a quixotic quest to break the hyperactive Jamaican star into this
country's pop market. And so his Bad Boy debut Let's Get Physical comes crowded with
marquee-name guests like Chris Brown and Rihanna. It's an odd approach:
Ele's as enjoyably manic as ever, but his style clashes uncomfortably
with all these MTV smoothies. What's the point of an Elephant Man record
in which his idiosyncratic personality isn't given room to breathe? C+
