Rated: R; Genre: Horror; With: Taye Diggs and Geoffrey Rush

It's no surprise that this remake of the 1958 schlocker fatally overdoes the bloody body parts and CGI effects. What's disappointing is how completely it wastes an almost A-list cast. While Diggs and Peter Gallagher wander around looking for something, anything to do, Rush — taking on the Vincent Price role as the diabolical host of a haunted-house party — devours scenery with little apparent relish. Price had more fun four decades ago. So did the audience. C-
