Mortal Passions, an excellent, twisty nest-of-vipers thriller, features a suicidal rich kid (Gremlins' Zach Galligan), his errant, hot-to- trot wife (Krista Errickson), and his overprotective big brother (Michael Bowen). As one of the characters says, ''No matter how bad things might be at home, no one expects to get killed for it.'' It gets silly at the end, but for the most part it's as moody as the classic pulp fiction it imitates. B+
