Disregarding the vagaries of commercial taste, Canada's McGarrigle sisters, Kate and Anna, have been writing and singing tasteful, intelligent, personal music rooted in folk, country, Cajun, and other traditions since the '60s. (Linda Ronstadt and Maria Muldaur are among those who have notched McGarrigle-penned hits.) Mixing light, shimmery electric backing and downcast lyrics, their latest album, Heartbeats Accelerating can move hearts and minds. B
