SAG Starts Contract Talks Today

(FROM HOLLYWOOD REPORTER) – The Screen Actors Guild starts contract talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers today (April 15). Although SAG has jointly bargained alongside the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists for the past 27 years, the guild will enter talks alone this time, after the two split last month. On Monday, SAG offered AFTRA a spot at the table despite the split, but AFTRA declined the offer, saying it came too late for its board to meet and discuss the possibility. AFTRA will, however, have two observers present at the talks, which is standard for unions bargaining with the same employers (SAG had observers at the Writers Guild of America's talks with the AMPTP, for example). AFTRA is scheduled to start its talks with the AMPTP on April 28. (Hollywood Reporter)
