MARIO KART WII
(Nintendo, Wii, Everyone)

Nintendo literally reinvented the wheel for the latest edition of their madcap racing game — each copy comes with a circular, three-spoke piece of plastic that lets your steer with your Wii remote. (Old-schoolers need not worry: you can still use your legacy controllers to drive the cartoon buggies.) Even with this and some other changes — motorbikes are now part of the mix — the rest of the game is classic Kart. Which means no lead is ever safe, thanks to the familiar power-up cubes that turn every track a minefield of banana peels and turtle-shell torpedoes. Score an invincibility star (especially online, where the competition is ruthless) and you'll feel as if you've won Daytona. A–Gary Eng Walk
