Ossian Kennard Maclise, an American-born child living with his parents in Nepal, became a Tibetan Buddhist novice monk at age 4 and at age 7 was recognized by his priests as the reincarnation of a high lama-the first Westerner ever so esteemed. In 1983 filmmaker Tom Anderson interviewed the 12-year-old holy kid about his life and religious beliefs, and in 1990 he conducted another Q&A with the young man, who now says he would like to work in the West, ''looking for answers to life.''
